  • This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work. This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.

  • The SHB30516 – Certificate III in Barbering qualification is made up of 26 units and takes between 3 years full time and 4 years part time to complete (depending on the jurisdiction).  If you have completed SHB20216 – Certificate II in Salon Services, credit will be given for units already studied.

  • You will learn mostly on the job, in a practical real world way! In addition to this you will be supported with online activities such as reading, research, and design projects. You will also have assessment work for each unit of learning.

  • Yes, your trainer will work with you to make sure that you are ready to be assessed in each unit, or cluster of units.  You will need to complete your theory assessment, your workplace supervisor will confirm that you have undertaken the tasks as part of your work and then your assessor will observe you at work to confirm your competence.  Sometimes you will need to be observed over a number of visits.

  • The SHB30516 – Certificate III in Barbering is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway, however, it is not suitable for VETiS delivery.

  • Please refer to our Fees section on our website for current tuition fees.  If you are eligible for Skills First Funding the tuition fees will be minimal.  As an apprentice you will need to purchase your own tools of trade, (scissors, combs etc.) and we can provide you with some details on kits available through suppliers who offer student discounts.
